How Much Does a Tanzania Visa Cost?

The Tanzanian government has a list of visas available for visitors coming into the country. There are various prices for different purposes of visiting.

Here is a full list of the Tanzania visa costs below:

  • Ordinary Visa (single entry) - $50

  • Multi-Entry Visa - $100

  • Business Visa - $250

  • Transit Visa - $30

  • Gratis Visa - free

  • Student Visa - $50 (single three months), $250 (two years), $300 (6 months), and $550 (two years PhD)

The Types of Tanzania Visas Tourists Can Apply For

Tourists can apply for an Ordinary Visa (single entry) or a Multi-Entry Visa before they come to Tanzania for a safari. Each one has its own rules and duration length.

Here's some information about the two visas to better understand which one you might require.

Single Entry Visa

The Single Entry Visa is the most popular Tanzania tourist visa option. It's available to all eligible visitors coming to the country for tourism purposes. If issued, you'll be granted a 90-day stay, and you must leave before it expires.

This is a single-entry visa, so if you decide to leave, you won't be allowed back into the country using it again. You'll have to re-apply if you want to do so.

Multi-Entry Visa

The Multi-Entry Visa is for anyone who wants to make multiple visits to Tanzania within a 12-month period. All US citizens must apply for a Multi-Entry Visa which costs $100 per person; they aren't allowed to apply for the Single Entry Visa Option.

For anyone who may want to visit the neighboring countries on a multi-day safari like Kenya or Uganda, this option is perfect because you can cross back into Tanzania for your outbound flight without paying for another visa.

How long does it take to process a Tanzanian E-Visa?

Below we have outlined how long the various processing times can take and which one you can select that best suits you:

Standard Processing Time - 10 to 12 working days

Rush Processing Time - 8 to 10 working days (additonal fees apply)

Super Rush Processing Time - 6 to 8 working days (additonal fees apply)

Its helpful to remember that public holidays and weekends are not considered ‘working days’. Application volume during busy periods can affect processing times to be much longer. Make sure your application is accurate in information and you take time to fill out the document perfectly to avoid any delays.

We recommend starting your E-Visa application at least a month prior to your travel date in order to allow for any delays or issues that may arise.

Applying for the Tanzania E-visa

To apply for your Tanzania E-visa, follow the steps below for a smooth process:

  • Log on to the official Tanzania Electronic Visa Application System Website.

  • Create an account - Having an account will allow you to keep a track of your application status in real time.

  • Fill out the application form and upload copies of your required documents. (make sure all information is correct)

  • Submit your application.

  • Pay for your visa fee.

  • Receive your application number - this will help you track it’s progress.

  • Once you have approval - make sure to print and download this document ready for your travels.

After you submit your application, a member of Tanzania's immigration service will review it and decide whether to accept or deny you entry. Your portal is where you can track the progress of your application, giving you a real-time feed of how it's going. Following the review, you'll get an email in your inbox stating the result. Although it's rare, there have been situations where applicants have been called to their local Tanzanian embassy for an interview for further inspection.

How to Pay For Your E-visa

You'll be required to pay for your E-visa on the spot before you submit your application. You can pay with the following methods:

  • Credit or Debit Cards

  • PayPal - There may be additional charges paying via this platform

  • Bank Transfer - This option will take longer to process

Whatever option you choose, the Tanzania visa cost will be the same, except for any additional fees your bank or platform may charge you.

We suggest avoiding paying by SWIFT Transfers as it can take time to trace payments from travelers - thus making the process time take even longer.

Lastly, if your visa application is unsuccessful, you won't be refunded, even for minor mistakes when applying, so proceed carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I Hire a Third-Party Visa Company to Apply for My Visa?

We don't advise our customers to hire a third party to help them with the application process. These companies usually add their own fees to the price, so the Tanzania visa cost will increase. Plus, the procedure is very easy to do by yourself.

Our support team is always here to help our clients when they apply for a visa, so you don't have to waste any unnecessary money

Are There Any Nationalities That Are Exempt From Obtaining a Visa for Tanzania?

Yes, over 60 countries and territories are exempt from obtaining a visa.

See if your nationality is on the visa-free countries list for Tanzania.

What's a Referral Visa?

The Tanzanian government has another visa, which is called the Referral Visa. This has been introduced for people from countries who cannot obtain a Visa On Arrival. Those from the countries on this list need approval from the Commissioner General of Immigration before they can come to Tanzania.

Anyone who has to undergo the Referral Visa process must apply at least two months before flying to Tanzania. The application has to include the following pieces of information:

  • A letter from someone who knows the applicant personally or the company that has invited them (letter of invitation).

  • The fee for the visa.

  • A valid passport with six months validity.

  • A passport photo.

  • A copy of the person/company's documents who's hosting you.

  • A copy of the applicant's passport and residence permit.

  • A security bond filled in.

The Tanzanian Immigration Services advise anyone applying for a visa in this category to avoid booking flights until the application is approved.

You can see a full list of nationalities under the Referral Visa program. Please be aware that the list changes regularly, so all applicants, regardless of the visa type, should check it out.
