WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GAIN ENTRY INTO TANZANIA?

Visa requirements for Tanzania are pretty straightforward. Here is the information you will need. 

You will need to make sure your passport is valid and that you have at least 6 months left from the date of entry into Tanzania. It’s very important to check this before you book your trip. You will also need one blank visa page left within your passport for it to get stamped. They will ask you to prove that you have a return flight booked and ask you to show the hotel/accommodation in which you are staying whilst there. 

Most international visitors need to apply for a visa to gain entry into Tanzania. A visa is what you will show when entering the country. You will also need to show the above documents too.

HOW TO GET A VISA FOR TANZANIA?

Visa requirements for Tanzania depend on the country you are from so it’s a good idea to research this before you pay for a Tanzania visa. 

Once you know, go online to www.immigration.go.tz and apply for a Tanzania visa. You will be required to fill out the e-visa application form and pay at the point of completion. Your documentation should be processed within 10 days when you should receive your visa electronically too. 

HOW MUCH DOES A TANZANIA VISA COST?

A Visa for Tanzania should last you approximately 3 months from the date of approval which will allow you to travel at length within the country. 

For a standard visa it will cost $50 US Dollars, for a multiple entry visa - $100 and for a business visa, you will be looking at $250.

CAN I GET A VISA FOR TANZANIA ON ARRIVAL?

Visa requirements for Tanzania do allow you to purchase a visa when you arrive into the country. However you may want to take into account waiting and processing times at the airport. Oftentimes it is much more advisable to have the paperwork completed beforehand so that you can start your vacation as soon as you arrive. Be prepared to pay for your visa with cash too.

WHO NEEDS A VISA FOR ARRIVAL IN TANZANIA?

There are over 150 citizenships that require a Tanzania visa so it’s essential to check if you are a citizen to one of these countries. Follow the visa guidelines here to check if you require a visa.

WHAT TYPE OF VISA DO I NEED?

A ‘tourist visa’ is the visa requirement to gain entry into Tanzania as a traveler. If you plan to travel for more than 3 months, you must apply for a ‘multiple-entry visa’. For all United States passport holders, a multiple-entry visa is the only visa that is available for American citizens.

WHERE DO I GET A TANZANIA VISA FROM?

The best way to obtain a Tanzania visa is on the Tanzania Immigration website where you can apply for an e-visa straight away. It is suggested to apply for a Tanzania visa 6 weeks before you travel.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A TANZANIA VISA APPROVED?

The good news is that it doesn’t take long to get a Tanzania visa approved. Visa processing takes around 10 days and there is an option to check your Tanzania visa status online too. However, it typically only takes around 3 days to process. Once approved, you should receive your e-visa electronically via email.

DO I NEED PASSPORT PHOTOS FOR THE TANZANIA VISA?

Yes, as it stands - you will need a passport photo for your Tanzania visa application. Aside from photos, you will also need a completed application form and proof of travel and accommodation too.

HOW FAST CAN I GET A TANZANIA VISA?

You can get a Tanzania visa pretty fast. Once you have filled out your online application, it should take a maximum of 10 days to receive via email. You should print your Tanzania visa to present at the border of Tanzania when you arrive. 


HOW LONG IS A TANZANIA VISA VALID FOR?

A standard Tanzania visa is valid for 90 days but you can also apply for a 1-year visa which allows you to travel in and out of the country at will for up to 1 year. Multiple-entry visas therefore cost around $100.

What vaccinations do I need to gain entry into Tanzania?

There are varied vaccinations that you will need to get before traveling to Tanzania. It’s a good idea to start preparing for your trip around three months before you travel as some vaccinations require two or three jabs to complete.
