  1. CLIMB AN ACTIVE VOLCANO

Climbing an active volcano can be a great idea for an expedition adventure. There are many active volcanoes in Africa that are perfect for climbing and most are safe to do so. Even the most active volcano in Africa is Mount Nyiragongo which is also available to climb, located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Believe it or not, Kilimanjaro is not just an active volcano but is also Africa’s highest volcanic mountain standing tall at around 20,000 ft above sea level.

If you are contemplating climbing an active volcano as your next expedition adventure, consider these amazing volcanic mountains too: Mount Kenya, Mount Meru, Mount Etna and Mount Elgon. All of which offer an experience of a lifetime. Perfect for your next African expedition!

2. SWIM THE DEVIL’S POOL IN ZAMBIA

Swimming Devil’s Pool in Zambia can be one of the most terrifying experiences you may ever encounter. Words cannot describe this unique experience of swimming to the edge of a jaw dropping 108 meter waterfall, which is double the height of Niagara Falls.

Devil’s Pool is perfect to add onto any African expedition and can be found at the edge of Victoria Falls.

One might ask: ‘How do you survive the Devil’s Pool?’

If you are daring enough to plunge into the Devil’s Pool and face the heart-stopping depths of the waterfall, be assured that the main thing that is stopping you from being carried over the edge is the safety of a rock lip that juts out and upwards which acts as a barrier that keeps you from being pushed down the waterfall. The good news is that it would take some serious effort for you to go up and over the rock lip. Devil’s Pool is only available to experience from August to January. If this sounds like your dream African expedition adventure - head to Victoria Falls and experience the Falls in all their glory.

4. CROSSING THE ZAMBEZI RIVER

The monumental Zambezi River, also known as the ‘Great River’ is known to be one of the most fascinating rivers of all time. The river is wide and deep and its currents underneath are strong. Their river crossings are some of the most captivating to watch. Elephants and other wild animals who are bold enough to cross it are faced with an infestation of Hippos and Crocodiles, as well as the uncertain river currents beneath.

Because the Zambezi River is one of the most dangerous rivers to cross, it makes for an amazing expedition adventure to observe, or if you are brave enough, why not try white water rafting or canoeing down the Zambezi River for your next African expedition?

Both are not for the faint hearted and come with warnings. Crocodiles and Hippos are high in number meaning that arms and legs are to be kept inside canoes and rafts at all times. If you have the courage, this trip would make an incredible expedition adventure of all time!

5. KAYAK THROUGH THE OKAVANGO DELTA

If you are looking for an original water safari - it's essential you try this extraordinary African expedition. The Okavango Delta is located in Botswana and is a highly favored destination for many travelers. The Delta consists of over a thousand miles of grasslands, flood waters and geographical regions that encompass it. It's a stunning location that is incomparable to anywhere else in the world.

What makes this expedition adventure alluring is that aside from viewing the Delta from a flight or by vehicle, it's possible to brave its 1,056 mile waters by kayak.

From inside your kayak, perfect observation of bird life and wildlife surrounds you as you float on top of the stunning waters which allow you to feel closer to nature but also study, learn and reach your goals of kayaking the mighty Delta itself.

If you are an adventurous soul in need of an offbeat African expedition - this is it! The wildlife you will encounter circulating your kayak will be breath-taking, from cheetahs roaming through the shrubs to African wild dogs prowling the Delta lands, not to mention the crocodiles and hippos lurking under the waters and among the reeds. The Delta is a paradise for wildlife but especially for hippos. Enjoy this incredible African expedition!

6. SAIL DOWN THE RIVER NILE

Traveling the River Nile was and always will be an amazing African expedition that is a legendary experience. The 4,132 mile long river stretches from Lake Victoria in Uganda to the Mediterranean Sea.

The most popular way to travel down the River Nile is by cruise, however it's also possible to travel down the Nile by a Felucca which is a traditional sailing boat made out of wood. If you are looking for an African expedition with a difference then a sailing boat could be just the right choice.

The River Nile offers many varied attractions to see whilst floating along the water, especially the ancient attractions of Egypt, for example - The Valley of the Kings, Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza.

You’ll want to remain on top of the water as below the river, the Nile is filled with alligators and other dangerous reptiles. The River Nile carries many bacterial infections so if you are braving the Nile in all its glory, you will want to stay firmly on the boat and not be tempted to take a dip.

The River Nile is one of the most legendary African expeditions to experience - go for it!

7. DECODE EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPHICS

If working out clues and scripture is your ideal way to spend a vacation, decoding the Egyptian hieroglyphics could be the perfect expedition adventure for you.

Egyptian hieroglyphics were first discovered in the 19th century. Hieroglyphics are an accumulation of symbols, human figures and animal figures. These hieroglyphics are written in columns and rows which are possible to read from back to front and left to right. Some inscriptions are names of gods, after-life instructions to reach eternal life, the journey of the soul (named ka) as well as the stars in which you would live amongst Gods. Whilst most hieroglyphics are understood in today's world, there are still many that are not which make for a truly exciting expedition adventure.

If decoding the Egyptian hieroglyphics would be your ideal African expedition, there are many tours in Egypt that offer the chance to solve the mysteries.
